Volta Infra came out of stealth this week with one of the more striking numbers of the year for a seven-month-old company: a $10 billion, six-year deal to supply Anthropic with AI compute capacity, according to The Register. Volta, founded in January 2026 and partly backed by Nvidia, is building the capacity alongside Bitdeer Technologies at a Norway data center site offering 133 megawatts, powered by Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin chips.
The Delivery Timeline
Bitdeer expects to deliver the capacity across four data halls in two phases, targeting the end of 2026 for the first and March 2027 for the second -- an aggressive build schedule for a company that only exited stealth this week. Volta also disclosed $300 million in seed and Series A funding at a $2.4 billion valuation, alongside a separate $5 billion AI infrastructure financing program with asset manager Azora specifically meant to fund additional sites beyond Norway.
What It Says About the Compute Market
The deal is a data point in a pattern that's become common through 2026: frontier AI labs are increasingly comfortable locking in multi-billion-dollar, multi-year compute commitments with brand-new infrastructure startups rather than exclusively with AWS, Google Cloud or Microsoft Azure, betting that dedicated capacity and faster build timelines outweigh the counterparty risk of a company with a seven-month operating history.
